Glass Experience and Glass Class FAQ

Primary parking is available in front of the Davenport studio. Look for the green sign that says “Park Here”. Overflow parking is on the street. If you do park on the street, avoid parking under the pine trees! They weep sap and that can be hard to remove from your car.
Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your hot shop reservation time slot. Before you start your glass experience or class you will need to check in, sign our liability waiver and choose the shape options for your glass masterpiece. It is also a good time to browse the gallery, watch others working with the glass, or check out other class opportunities in the studio. Please be respectful of others and arrive on time. You will be in a session with other participants and we cannot start until everyone who is signed up for that time slot is present.
Glass experiences last 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on the group size and number of projects being completed. You will not be at the bench the entire time, but it is fun and instructive to watch others working with the glass. You are free to leave after you have completed your project, just be sure that you have made arrangements for pick up/shipping in advance. Also, if you know you need to leave early, let us know and we’ll try to put you first in rotation.
Closed toe shoes ONLY, No flip flops or sandals permitted in Hot Shop!
Please wear natural fiber clothing – a cotton t-shirt or similar is usually best as it can get warm near the furnace and glory hole. Synthetics will melt if they accidentally brush against hot metal surfaces; also, they are usually not as comfortable in warm environments. A second layer like a pull-over or hoodie is good to have too because we are on the coast and when you are not near the blowing area the ambient studio temperature is cooler than the working area.
For safety reasons, students/participants must be 12 years of age or older. Well-behaved younger kids are welcome to come sit in the observation area. No Pets at the studio please. A hot shop is not a good place for our four-legged friends! Because we are working studio, there is the possibility of glass powder, glass frit, and even small shards of broken glass on the floor.
When will my project be available?
All glass objects made must go through an overnight annealing process and will not be available for same-day pick-up. Most objects can be picked up 1 to 2 business days after your session. If pickup is not possible we do offer shipping. Please be sure to make arrangements for pick up or shipping at the time of your session.
Shipping starts at $25.00 and may be more depending on the number of objects, weight, and distance to ship. We pack and ship only once per week; allow 3-4 days for delivery after shipping.
Taking pictures in the studio
You are more than welcome to take as many photos as you want during your glass experience! You can bring some else along to take photos as long as they abide by all hot shop safety rules and sign the liability release waiver before the activity begins. All participants must complete and sign a liability release. We’ll provide a hard copy at the time of your session.
Cancellation / No Show Policy
Please note you must give the studio 48 hours notice to cancel or change your reservation. No Show / Cancellations with less than 48 hours are subject to a $40.00 fee per person. Please understand we are a small business. Our classes are non-refundable. We will be happy to reschedule your appointment with 48 hours advance notice. When you do not show up for a class, and do not give us the required 48 hours’ notice, we lose the opportunity to teach another customer just like yourself who wants the opportunity to work with glass.

Scheduling / Reservations
Advance reservations are required and may be made online at www.ChrisJohnsonGlass.com.
Go to “Hands-on” then select “Classes and Workshops” scroll down until you see the “Book a Class” button. This will take you to a live calendar. Note that spots fill very quickly, especially during school breaks, weekends and summer months. Typically we are booking 4 weeks in advance.
Though your reservation is non-refundable, if you need to cancel your reservation we will make every effort to reschedule you. A 48 hour advance cancellation is respectfully required. See Cancellations/No Show for information about rescheduling.
Prepaid Vouchers and Gift Certificates
1. It may take up to 24 hours for your voucher to show up in our online booking system.
2. Please locate your prepaid voucher (ie Groupon / Living Social / Etc)
3. Check the promotional value of your voucher. Prime time slots will require an additional charge.
5. Make your reservation online and put the voucher number in the promo code box.
6. Don’t worry if your voucher has an expiration date – we will honor it up to 18 months after purchase. Please call or email if you are having problems scheduling online with an expired voucher
